Hommage (ɔˈmaʒ )
French
NOUN
hommage; specif., tribute paid to an artist, writer, composer, etc., as by incorporating some characteristic idiom or style of the person in one's own work.
After months in the making, the Hommage Series comes to a close; 36 paintings ranging from classical to more contemporary styles on various medias. All with the singular purpose to celebrate the great artists of our times and their immeasurable influence in Das B's life.
For years Das B has been drawing and painting subjects that sprouted from his head, creating a universe of his own based on the reality he perceived. After many conversations and through the help of great friends, Das B narrowed down some of the artists that influenced him the most and how they helped shape his artistic discovery.
The Hommage series came to life under a fundamental idea: to take a moment and thank the foundation upon which you are building on. Everything is inspired by something and someone, a smell, a look, a color, a shape... Be thankful for it and let it guide you.
"I wanted to pay homage to the great artists that have helped shape and command the artistic terrain I navigate. To thank the artistic styles that I found very appealing and appreciated, the styles that have connected people throughout the years, dilemmas, wars and moments of joy." Das B
The painters that have influenced this series are truly countless, however the following were included in the artworks: Andy Warhol, Vincent Van Gogh, Charles M. Schulz, Henri Matisse, Oh de Laval, Kaws, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Fernand Léger, Martin Kippenberger, Piet Mondrian, George Condo, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Cecilia Beaux, Pablo Picasso, E. Vuilhaume, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Philip Guston, Tom Wesselman, Jackson Pollock, and Salvador Dalí.
